Hockey Boyz
Check out this video of the boys from their first time on the ice with hockey sticks and pucks. Otis insisted that we get some pucks the other weekend, so the boys took a trip with Daddy to Canadian Tire for pucks, tape and sticks, and now they want to spend every minute outside. We have been on the ice every weekend for over a month, sometimes a few times a weekend.

Look at me Growing!
So six days in and little Oscar has not dropped any weight (which usually happens after delivery) and has actually gained weight! Makes us wonder what he would have weighed if he stayed in until his actual due date of today.... Kelley, our midwife, made her last home visit today, and is so excited with how well everyone is doing. We then took Oscar for a procedure to remove a lip and slight tongue tie. We went through this with Otis at 18 months, and knew that it was something to look for and address early. It goes ignored in the majority of the population, with a variety of short and long term effects on people. Immediately it creates troubles/pain for breast feeding, which often results in people giving up and going to formula, which has a whole host of long term problems associated ranging from antibody deficiencies, weight problems, mouth breathing rather than nose breathing, dental/orthodontic problems down the line, etc. The ties also effect the way teeth are brushed, and swallowing happens. The tongue, in particular, can be the cause of everything ranging from digestive problems, to speech, breathing issues, sleep appnea, migraines, to overall body/nervous system issues. It was just as difficult a choice to make with Oscar as it was with Otis, and we relived everything we did with Otis, so it was probably harder on Jenny and I this time around...but we know the benefits, and the little trooper was barely fazed by the ordeal. It will be a few days of recovery, and two weeks of intense exercises to keep them from reforming, but he is a tough one.
His brothers wanted him to come watch them play hockey, but he was too busy being cozy inside on this cold cold day. Next time, he promises them he'll go watch.

Hockey Hooligans Part 2!
So the boys have been out skating every weekend since Christmas almost, and are really loving it. Daddy is often trying to entice them off the ice with offers of hot chocolate or cookies, as they don't ever want to leave the cold outdoor ice before he has frozen toes. They would likely play outside until frostbite took a few toes off, which is why we make sure they have great winter gear. Sunday's big trip (to get the boys out of the house and give Mamma and Oscar some peace) included a trip to Canadian Tire to get hockey pucks, as they wanted to play some hockey, and realised that they only had played with balls instead of pucks in the past. We got them set up with sticks, and (soft rubber) pucks, and after school today it was right over to the neighbours ice pad for a little on ice work. They actually did a great job moving and holding the sticks, and balance was not as much of a problem as I figured. When you are so close to the ground it also doesn't phase you as much when you fall a lot. Otis liked being the goalie...but then they both referred to goals as goalies...so I don't really know what they thought of it all. I do know that they loved it. If it didn't take so long to get in and out of the gear for trips to the washroom, we would have been out until way after dark!
Hockey Hoodlams!
The girls next door are really competitive hockey players, and they just handed down some gear to us. The boys were so excited to get into the stuff that we almost had our first hockey brawl over the equipment.

I need this on a T-Shirt
I clearly remember the TV show, though they are black and white memories for me, so it was probably in syndication, and I doubt Jenny ever saw it. Fred McMurray seemed to have a lot of adventures with three boys in the house. I like the idea of a three guys being a lighthearted comedy, rather than a drama or horror show....
