So the boys have been out skating every weekend since Christmas almost, and are really loving it. Daddy is often trying to entice them off the ice with offers of hot chocolate or cookies, as they don't ever want to leave the cold outdoor ice before he has frozen toes. They would likely play outside until frostbite took a few toes off, which is why we make sure they have great winter gear. Sunday's big trip (to get the boys out of the house and give Mamma and Oscar some peace) included a trip to Canadian Tire to get hockey pucks, as they wanted to play some hockey, and realised that they only had played with balls instead of pucks in the past. We got them set up with sticks, and (soft rubber) pucks, and after school today it was right over to the neighbours ice pad for a little on ice work. They actually did a great job moving and holding the sticks, and balance was not as much of a problem as I figured. When you are so close to the ground it also doesn't phase you as much when you fall a lot. Otis liked being the goalie...but then they both referred to goals as goalies...so I don't really know what they thought of it all. I do know that they loved it. If it didn't take so long to get in and out of the gear for trips to the washroom, we would have been out until way after dark!

Hockey Hoodlams!
The girls next door are really competitive hockey players, and they just handed down some gear to us. The boys were so excited to get into the stuff that we almost had our first hockey brawl over the equipment.

I need this on a T-Shirt
I clearly remember the TV show, though they are black and white memories for me, so it was probably in syndication, and I doubt Jenny ever saw it. Fred McMurray seemed to have a lot of adventures with three boys in the house. I like the idea of a three guys being a lighthearted comedy, rather than a drama or horror show....

Happy Birthday Oscar!
Just an update to let everyone know the news. Baby Oscar joined our family this morning at 9:30am. He was 8lb 13oz. Both he and Jenny are happy and healthy, and trying to get some rest. Arlo and Otis are really excited about their new baby (like jumping up and down excited for several hours tonight) and like nothing other than to try to hug, hold, and kiss their little bro. It was an early morning wake up that got Jenny thinking it may happen today, and by 6:30 she knew it was probably going to happen...but still hesitated when I asked if I should call to take the day off. By 7 she was insisting that I get someone else (our friend Helen) to take the boys to school, and by 8:30 our midwife was there, in our bedroom, and Jenny was asking if she could start pushing. It was a whirlwind, to say the least, ending with me catching Oscar as he popped out just before 9:30am.
Arlo was excited to hear about Oscar when I picked him up from school(he was on edge today I hear from a few sources, and teary by the end of day) and Otis ran to the fence when we got there to pick him up. Arlo insisted we get cake, because it was a birthday, so a trip to the Cupcake Lounge, flowers for Mama, and picking up a pizza pretty much made this the best night ever for the boys, and everyone is getting some well earned rest right now.
It's a boy!!
Arlo and Otis have a baby brother! Born Thursday, January 15 @ 9:30am. Everyone is doing well. More to come...

Tree Top Star
Arlo spent two weeks in Elf Academy this December (that was the theme in his kinder classroom) and received the honorary elf name of "Tree Top Star Elf" (he wanted to know what the star on top of the tree was called, and then wanted that as a name). "Tree Top" helped put the star on the tree to open the season, and yesterday he closed down the Christmas season by removing the star in the closing ceremonies. The boys have been helping to get the house tidied up in case their new baby brother decides that it is time to come out and meet the family.
