Family Forest School

During our self isolation we have been venturing to locations that are less travelled so that the boys can get outdoor time, and exercise, but stay away from people.  We were introduced to a wonderful forest behind the home of a friend, and have made several trips there for hours at a time.  As you can see the boys find all sorts of ways to keep busy in the forest.  They even turned a fallen tree (a big one) into a teeter totter (until we snapped it in half).  We brought tools along one days I they could turn sections of a splintered tree into walking sticks.  Nothing is better than some freedom with a saw and fallen logs (when supervised, of course!).

Last Ski Day of the Season

Last Saturday Camp Fortune ski hill was still open, so daddy took Arlo, Otis, and their buddy Kaiyan got what turned out to be the last day of the year.  It was the ski hills celebration of 100 years, and with the start of the covid crisis, the hill was pretty quiet, so we spent 8 hours skiing and hanging out.  We even stayed for the evenings fireworks, which was the perfect end to the perfect last ski day.

Observation day for Oscar at the Montessori

Osc are is really progressing with his number sense.  It seems that he is more drawn to number related tasks than geography ones right now.  Here he uses the five chain beads to identify benchmark numbers that are factors of five.  




He loves answering equations using the beads.

Ozzie was keen to show me how neat his printing is getting.  He even showed me that he has been working on cursive!

Here he sounded out each of the words phonetically, then said them again and matched it with the appropriate picture.  He also skipped between each activity while he put away each set of materials.  He was so excited to be sharing with his daddy.

Family Day Sens game

We got an opportunity to catch a Senators game on Family day.  The boys had a great time.  The Sens won it in a thrilling overtime period against Dallas.  It was a relatively early night , but a looong day for Otis, who skied for six hours already that day, and Oscar, who went for a two km walk with his dad earlier, and then spent two hours at a gymnastics centre for a birthday party that afternoon.  What a day!

Oscar really figured out how to slow down and turn on the weekend, and dad's knees and hips are happier for it...check it out!

Nature museum
